A bruised thumb forced Twins third-baseman Trevor Plouffe to miss a third straight game Monday night. He tried to take a couple of swings but was shut down after feeling discomfort. If he can’t play soon, he could land on the disabled list, paving the way for a possible return of Danny Valencia.
Valencia was part of the Twins major league roster the last two seasons before being sent to the minors this year. Twins vice president of player personell Mike Radcliffe says Valencia needs “to get his swing right and his mental approach right and things will take care of themselves.”
Looking at Valencia’s stats at Triple-A Rochester this season validate Radcliffe’s words. Valencia is hitting just .249 with seven home runs and 36 RBI in 65 games.
In other news, there were some strange sightings during the Twins’ series in Kansas City over the weekend. One fan shaved his back hair to look like a Joe Mauer jersey. Another fan, aware of Anthony Swarzak’s love for Sasquatch, dressed up like one.
