The newest player in the Gophers basketball 2016 recruiting class is Akeem Springs, a 6-foot-4 wing who averaged 13.2 points and 5.2 rebounds as a junior at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee last season.
Milwaukee grad transfer Akeem Springs (@SpringsAkeem) has committed to Minnesota, he told ESPN. Immediately eligible for 16-17.

Springs is a graduate transfer so he’s eligible to play right away.
Springs scored 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in Milwaukee’s win over the Gophers in December.
In addition to Springs, whom NBC Sports calls a proven scorer, the Gophers will have 2015 transfers Reggie Lynch (Illinois State) and DaVonte Fitzgerald (Texas A&M) available to play. Pitino is also bolstering his roster with incoming freshmen Amir Coffey (Hopkins, Minnesota’s Mr. Basketball) and Michael Hurt (Rochester John Marshall).
The Pioneer Press says Springs is filling the scholarship left open by Kevin Dorsey transferring.
Springs decided to leave Milwaukee after head coach Rob Jeter was fired following a 20-win season. ABC Milwaukee has more.
