The University of Minnesota is beginning a search for a permanent athletic director and the woman who has held the position since Norwood Teague suddenly resigned in August said Friday she’d like to keep it.
Interim athletic director Beth Goetz issued a statement Friday saying she’d be a candidate for the permanent position at the U of M.

Goetz replaced Teague after he was accused of sexual harassment by two female administrators.
According to 1500 ESPN, Goetz has been with the university since 2013, serving as the senior women’s administrator before she took over as the interim athletic director.

In a press release announcing the search Friday, University of Minnesota President Eric Kaler said he is assembling a search committee of roughly 10 members to assist him in the search process. He said they are accepting nominations for the search committee, which can be submitted here.
“This is an extremely important search for the future of Golden Gopher Athletics,” Kaler stated Friday. “And it is time to find the right person to provide leadership to our 25 teams and 720 student-athletes and to forge relationships with our thousands of donors, hundreds of thousands of fans and the broad public.”
One key point that Kaler highlighted in his statement is that the university intends to use an independent consultant to assist the school with the search.
Kaler anticipates retaining a search consultant and having a committee in place in March, with the search completed before spring ends.
“We hope to have a public review of finalist(s) in late spring, with the announcement of the new Athletic Director to follow shortly thereafter,” Kaler stated Friday.
