The Twins beat the Dodgers 5-1 Tuesday night for their first victory at Dodger Stadium since June 11, 2005.
Bailey Ober out-pitched Clayton Kershaw, allowing just one run on six hits in six innings. He improved to 3-0 this season with a 1.78 ERA in five starts since being called up from Triple-A St. Paul.
The Twins made Kershaw throw 90 pitches in just four innings and the Dodgers went to their bullpen in the fifth inning. The future hall of famer allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out seven.
Minnesota got to Kershaw in the first inning with a pair of hits, including an RBI single from Kyle Farmer to score Donovan Solano from second base. They made it 2-0 on Willi Castro’s RBI single in the fourth inning and then went ahead 3-0 in the fifth on Ryan Jeffers’s sacrifice bunt that scored Byron Buxton from third base.
Buxton went 2-for-4 with a walk and two stolen bases.
Minnesota put the final nail in the coffin on Farmer’s two-run homer in the ninth.
The win snaps a six-game win streak for the Dodgers and improves Minnesota’s record to 24-19. They’re 3.5 games ahead of second place Detroit (19-21) ahead of Wednesday’s series finale against the Dodgers. First pitch is set for 2:10 p.m. CT.
