With baseball’s All-Star game headed to Target Field in 2014, there’s only 11.5 months remaining to crank out the proper marketing materials for what’s being dubbed a “five-day experience.”
With that in mind, the Twins and Major League Baseball today unveiled the official logo for the game. It’s pretty much what you’d expect: Target Field in the foreground, with the downtown skyline in the background (and a few clouds!):
This will be the third time the Twins will have hosted the Mid-summer Classic. Previous games were held at Bloomington’s Metropolitan Stadium in 1965 and at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in 1985.
In attendance, 2013 All-Stars Glen Perkins and Joe Mauer, along with four-time All-Star Justin Morneau.
Mauer is returning to the lineup tonight after taking six games off after he and his wife, Maddie, welcomed twin daughters to the world.
“We’re doing great,” Mauer said of his family. “It’s very special. It’s been a heck of a week, but it’s good to be back (in a Twins uniform).”
As for Morneau, would the Twins have invited No. 33 to the podium if they were about to deal him to another team — as early as today? We’re guessing Morneau might be in a Twins uniform for a while, at least.
As Twins TV guy Dick Bremer put it: “Wouldn’t it be nice if all three of them were representing the Twins at next year’s All-Star game?”
