After designating right-handed pitcher Phil Hughes for assignment last week, the Minnesota Twins traded him to the San Diego Padres on Saturday.
In exchange, the Twins receive Janigson Villalobos, a 21-year-old Venezuela-born catcher who spent the 2017 season in the minors at the Arizona Rookie League where he hit .275.
Villalobos, who is not listed as one of San Diego’s top 30 prospects, will report to the Twins’ affiliate in the Gulf Coast League for rookies.
