The Minnesota Twins traded pitcher Kevin Correia Sunday to the Dodgers for a player to be named later or cash considerations, the club announced.
The Twins told Correia, a San Diego, California native, after Saturday’s 9-4 loss to the Oakland A’s that he was being traded to NL West-leading Los Angeles.
“It’s nice to be able to go somewhere and play some important baseball games at the end of this year and it’s a place I’m very familiar with, so it’s exciting,” Correia said, according to ESPN. “It’s why we play this game.
ESPN says the Dodgers are looking to boost the back end of their pitching rotation. The Twins said Correia could also be used in long relief.
“I’m getting toward the end of my career and you want to play in some meaningful games and I’ll have the opportunity to do that over there,” Correia said.
Correia said he has no hard feelings about the trade and he enjoyed his time in Minnesota.
Correia, 33, went 5-13 with a 4.94 ERA in 23 starts with the Twins this season. Correia signed a two-year, $10 million deal with the Twins before last season. He was the club’s most consistent starter last year, posting a 4.18 ERA in 31 starts.
The Twins also announced left-hander Tommy Milone will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester to take Correia’s spot in the rotation, and Milone will start against the Astros on Monday.
Milone was acquired by the Twins from the A’s for outfielder Sam Fuld on July 31. The left-hander had a 3.55 ERA in 16 starts with the A’s this season and has a career 3.84 ERA in parts of four seasons in the Majors.
