Ryan Jeffers’ speed, some lights out pitching, and a bit of luck were the deciding factors for the Twins Wednesday afternoon as they secured a series win over the Chicago White Sox.
In another pitcher-dominated game, the Twins triumphed 3-1 thanks to some questionable fielding and some late runs on the back of another excellent Sonny Gray start.
In the bottom of the fifth, Jeffers legged out a triple after White Sox right fielder Gavin Sheets missed a routine fly ball after tripping in the outfield. The Twins catcher would eventually score on a routine infield hit that was mishandled Chicago’s first baseman Andrew Vaughn.
Jeffers doubled the lead later in the game, scoring from first on a Willi Castro double in the eighth.
A day after suffering his first blown save of the season, Jhoan Duran finished off the White Sox for his third save of the season – despite giving up a home run to Lenyn Sosa – as the Twins took two of three from their division rival.

Twins utilityman Kyle Farmer was helped off the field in the bottom of the fifth after getting struck in the face by a 91mph Lucas Giolito fastball. The Twins later announced Farmer suffered a jaw injury but full details weren’t provided by the end of the game.
Byron Buxton left the field after suffering a nasty collision on the basepath. Again, no word on his condition.

Sonny Gray recorded his second win of the season after pitching five scoreless innings, striking out five and allowing just three hits.
The Twins now embark on a seven-game road trip that starts off in New York against the Yankees with first pitch set for 6:05pm at Yankee Stadium. Joe Ryan and Jhony Brito are set to start for the Twins and Yankees, respectively.
