Samuel Deduno pitched a gem and Ryan Doumit stayed hot as the Twins shutout the Royals, 3-0 Tuesday night in Kansas City.
It’s the second straight shutout for the Twins. They blanked the Mariners, 10-0 Sunday at Target Field.
Deduno allowed four hits and two walks over six shutout innings. He struck out five. The right-hander is 2-1 in three starts since being called up from Triple-A Rochester. He’s allowed just one run in his last two starts combined.
Doumit continued his torrid streak by going 2-4 with his seventh home run of the season and two RBI. In his last eight games, Doumit is 11-34 with 13 RBI.
His home run put the Twins (26-29) up 1-0 in the fourth, and he followed a Josh Willingham run-scoring single in the fifth with an RBI single of his own.
Deduno started the seventh inning, but his night ended after giving up a leadoff double to Lorenzo Cain.
Brian Duensing came in and got Matt Moustakas to line out, and Casey Fien recorded the last two outs of the inning to leave Cain at third base.
Jared Burton pitched a clean eighth inning and Glen Perkins mowed down the Royals in order in the ninth for his 12th save of the season.
The Twins are 8-2 in their last 10 games, and just two-and-a-half games beind the second place Cleveland Indians (30-28).
