The Twins set a franchise record Saturday night with a 17-0 win over the Royals at Target Field. It’s the largest margin of victory in a shutout in team history.
Kyle Gibson pitched six innings for the win on the mound as he continues his turnaround in the second half. Gibson had a 6.31 ERA before the All-Star break and has a 3.64 ERA since the break.
Offensively, Minnesota scored four in the first, six in the second and three more in the third before Eduardo Escobar capped his huge night with a 3-run homer in the seventh to make it 17-0.
Escobar led the 14-hit attack with a pair of homers, a triple and 6 RBI.
- Brian Dozier hit his 27th homer of the season.
- Joe Mauer went 4-for-4, upping his batting average to .303.
- Byron Buxton had three hits in his first start since hurting his hand earlier in the week.
The Yankees and Angels both won so the AL Wild Card race still has the Yankees in the first spot, one game ahead of the Twins while the Angels are 1 1/2 games back from Minnesota.
