MINNEAPOLIS — Justin Morneau hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to help lift the Twins to an 10-9 comeback victory over the Los Angeles Angels Thursday at Target Field.
Matt Capps pitched the ninth inning and gave up two runs, but still earned his second save of the season.
For the day, the Twins pounded out 20 hits — including homers from Joe Mauer and Josh Willingham — in their biggest offensive outburst of the young season.
Twins starter Francisco Liriano had a rough outing, giving up five runs in the second inning to put Minnesota in a 5-0 hole. But Mauer’s three-run homer in the fifth inning made it 6-3 at the time, and Denard Span’s infield single — his fourth hit of the day — tied it at 6-6 in the bottom of the seventh.
Wilingham hit his fourth homer of the season, a solo shot to left to start the seventh inning.
