Flame-throwing Twins pitching prospect Nick Burdi will undergo season-ending elbow surgery, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.
The right-handed reliever is considered one of the top bullpen arms in the minors, and he can reach triple digits with his fastball.
At Double-A this season Burdi allowed just one run with 20 strikeouts and four walks in 17 innings.
Burdi dealt with arm issues last season, which limited him to just three games. After battling through, Burdi decided to change his pitching delivery in the offseason in hopes of starting healthy.
With the Twins’ bullpen performing around league average this season, there was hope the Burdi could eventually be called up to the big league club.
However it appears we’ll have to wait at least another year to see Burdi in a Twins uniform.
