There was some more ominous news coming from the Twins’ farm system Tuesday night.
The team’s top pick in the 2013 draft, Kohl Stewart left his start in the second inning of the Cedar Rapids Kernels game as a precaution.
The Pioneer Press reports Stewart retired the first batter of the second inning, before giving up a double and a walk. Stewart then drew a visit from the team’s trainer as he didn’t have his normal velocity.

Stewart missed time earlier this season with a shoulder impingement,but returned to work four innings for Beloit on Aug. 13.
At that time, Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said an MRI hadn’t found anything structurally wrong with Stewart’s shoulder. Also Dr. John Steubs didn’t find any other problems.
In 85 2/3 innings this season, Stewart had a 2.42 ERA in 18 starts. He was the fourth overall pick in 2013 and received a $4.54 million signing bonus.

Shoulder problems also kept Stewart to about 20 pro innings during his rookie season in 2013.
The Twins also announced plans to shutdown their top prospect outfielder Byron Buxton yesterday. He is still dealing with concussion-like symptoms after a collision last week in New Britain.
