The Twins have joined the fight against bullying in schools. The team released a video featuring catcher Joe Mauer for the government’s anti-bullying campaign, the Star Tribune reports.
In the video, which was released Thursday on the Twins’ community page, there are several children holding placards that are seated in different places throughout Target Field. Mauer appears in the video and says, among other things, “Bullying has many faces, but so do those who can help.”
Some critics of the video don’t believe the message goes far enough. Minnesota Public Radio says the Twins played it “safe” in the video because it did not reference gays and lesbians — the crux of the drive of the “It Gets Better” campaign — which was spurred by the suicides of several young gay people.
MPR says the Twins were intending on producing an “It Gets Better” spot, something other Major League teams have done already.
