Four of 18 hits went over the wall as the Twins (23-12) buried the Blue Jays 9-1 to complete a three-game sweep in Toronto Wednesday night.
Jorge Polanco went 5-for-5 and smashed one of four Twins two-run homers. It’s Polanco’s second five-hit performance in the first 35 games of the season, and he finished just a triple shy of the cycle.
The other two-run homers were hit by C.J. Cron, Jonathan Schoop and Eddie Rosario, who leads the American League with 13 homers.
After back-to-back shutouts by Twins pitchers to begin the series, Kyle Gibson allowed just one run and two hits over six innings. The right-hander struck out a career high 11 and walked just one.
Minnesota returns to Target Field for seven straight home games beginning Friday with the first four against the Detroit Tigers, which includes a split doubleheader Saturday. Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels visit Minneapolis Monday-Wednesday next week.
