Sonny Gray allowed just two runs on five hits in seven innings and the bullpen finished things off as the Twins jumped on the Cardinals early and left St. Louis with a 5-3 win Thursday night.
Ryan Jeffers and Michael A. Taylor fueled the offense, with both slugging a two-run homer in the second inning to put the Twins up 4-0.
Taylor then drew a walk with the bases loaded in the sixth for a 5-1 lead.
Jhoan Duran allowed one run off two hits but Taylor Motter struck out swinging as Duran recorded his 19th save of the season.
