More MLB history for the Twins as they are the first team to hit 300 home runs in a single season. Number 300 came on Jonathan Schoop’s two-run shot to left in the top of the seventh inning of Minnesota’s 10-4 win over the Tigers on Thursday.
Willians Astudillo hit a screaming line-drive homer in the eighth for No. 301, boosting Minnesota’s lead to 10-4 in the game. Astudillo went 4-for-5 at the plate.
In the race for the all-time record, the Twins lead the Yankees (299 homers) by two. New York doesn’t play Thursday, so the home run race will be settled over the final three day sof the regular season, Friday-Sunday.
The victory is No. 99 for the Twins, making 2019 the second-most successful regular season in team history. The 1965 Twins won 102 games, but no other Twins team had won more than 98 until now.
