The Minnesota Twins have confirmed their 2023 Wild Card series roster hours ahead of Game 1 with the Toronto Blue Jays, with no room for Byron Buxton.
Buxton had reportedly been working round-the-clock to prove himself fit enough to make the roster, having been out of the team since going on the injured list in early August, and re-aggravating his knee while on a rehab assigning at the St. Paul Saints.
There is also no place for Joey Gallo, who has struggled with strikeouts at the plate through the season. Rookie Matt Wallner and late-season call-up Andrew Stevenson are named among the outfielders, joining Max Kepler and Michael A. Taylor.
Royce Lewis is among the infielders, though it’s not confirmed yet whether he will be fit enough for Game 1, though he may DH instead of playing shortstop.
