The Minnesota Twins clinched the American League Central Division title for the second straight season on Sunday afternoon. With the division title wrapped up, the Twins will host the Houston Astros in a best-of-three, AL Wild Card Series at Target Field beginning Tuesday.
The Twins clinched the division thanks to the Chicago White Sox 10-8 loss to the Chicago Cubs, The title didn’t come easy as the White Sox rallied from a 10-1 deficit to make the Twins sweat it out late in their 5-3 loss to the Cincinnati Reds.
The Twins finish the regular season 36-24 but went 24-7 at home this season. With the best-of-three series taking place at Target Field, Minnesota should have an advantage over an Astros team that finished with a 29-31 record including a 9-23 record on the road.
The focus for the Twins now shifts to the injuries of Byron Buxton and Josh Donaldson, who missed the final two games of the Reds series this weekend. If both are able to return, the Twins will be at full strength with a dangerous lineup that could produce a long postseason run.
