DETROIT — Scott Diamond out-pitched Anibal Sanchez and the Twins avoided getting swept by the Detroit Tigers today, winning 6-2.
Diamond pitched six strong innings before giving up a pair of runs on four hits, evening his record at 2-2.
Justin Morneau and Chris Parmelee each drove in two runs for Minnesota, with Parmelee hitting a solo homer in the eighth inning — his second of the year.
Center fielder Aaron Hicks hit his first major-league triple to lead off the seventh. He then scored on a Pedro Florimon single.
Sanchez, coming off a 17-strikeout performance against Atlanta last Friday, took the loss — giving up three runs on five hits through six innings.
The Twins (12-12) head to Cleveland after a day off on Thursday. After a three-game set with the Indians, Minnesota wraps up its 10-game road trip with a four-game series in Boston.
Note: Joe Mauer was given the day off. He’ll return to the lineup Friday in Cleveland.
