The Minnesota Twins claimed outfield Sam Fuld off waivers from the Oakland Athletics and designated outfielder Darin Mastroianni for assignment Sunday, according to reports.
Fuld hit .200 in seven games for the A’s, including a home run against the Twins, according to the A’s website. He’s expected to join the Twins on Tuesday at Tampa Bay, the Associated Press says.
“Good for him,” A’s manager Bob Melvin told the Daily Journal, happy that Fuld was able to land a big league job. “He’s a great fit for them. I would have been surprised if they had not picked him up.”

The Star Tribune says Fuld can play all three outfield positions. The Pioneer Press notes that Fuld also has speed.
Minnesota was awarded Fuld on Sunday at 12:05 and had to make immediate room on the 40-man roster for him, the Star Tribune reports, so the Twins designated Mastroianni, who was 0-for-11 in seven games for the Twins.
