Mitch Garver will be in uniform with the Twins and could make his MLB debut Friday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Garver got the call up from Triple-A Rochester after Twins outfielder Robbie Grossman broke his thumb in a collision with Byron Buxton Thursday night.
Garver is hitting .291 with 17 home runs and 45 RBI at Triple-A this season, and he’s been especially hot in August with an OPS (slugging plus on-base percentage) of 1.160, per Brandon Warne. His OPS for the season .928, good for second in the International League.
This won’t be Garver’s first experience playing in Minnesota. In 2010-11 he played for the St. Cloud River Bats (now the Rox) of the Northwood’s League.
The Twins placed Grossman on the 10-day disabled list and returned right-handed pitcher Aaron Slegers to Triple-A Rochester.
