The Twins weren’t able to complete their sweep of the Brewers, letting a two-run lead slip away in the bottom of the eighth on Wednesday.
Sergio Romo entered the game with a 5-3 lead, but after shortstop Jorge Polanco committed an error and Hernan Perez singled, Trent Grisham slugged a three-run home run to the Brewers in front for good.
Romo had been lights out in his six previous appearances, having allowed just two hits and zero walks against 24 batters since the Twins acquired him before the July 31 trade deadline.
However the Twins did put a rally on in the bottom of the ninth with two outs when Matt Albers couldn’t find the strike zone, as he walked Polanco, Miguel Sano and Eddie Rosario to load the bases for C.J. Cron, who flew out to center to end the game.
It’s a missed opportunity for the Twins as the Indians dropped their second straight game to the Red Sox, but Minnesota still has a half-game lead in the Central Division entering play Thursday.
Mitch Garver and Rosario each had home runs in the first inning to give the Twins an early 2-0 lead.

After Milwaukee was able to cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first, Sano launched his 21st home run of the season in the third to give Minnesota a 3-1 lead.

Kyle Gibson started for the Twins and pitched around some trouble. In his five innings of work, Gibson allowed three runs, eight hits, three walks and struck out three.
Trevor May and Sam Dyson all pitched well out of the bullpen before the Brewers grabbed the lead in the eighth.
With the loss, the Twins fall to 72-48 and begin a four-game series with the Texas Rangers starting Thursday, Aug. 15.
