Eduardo Escobar hit a solo home run and six other Minnesota Twins drove in at least one run in an 8-5 victory over the Mariners on Saturday night in Seattle.
The Twins also took advantage of some sloppy defense on the part of the Mariners, who had three errors and two wild pitches, MLB.com reports.
The only negative note on the night was when starting pitcher Trevor May was hit on his right elbow by a line drive off the bat of Kyle Seager.
May left the game early in the fourth inning. The team said later that May’s X-rays were negative but that he has a contusion and is listed as day to day, according to MLB.
Before the injury, May was solid. He struck out five, and allowed two runs on three hits and a walk in 3 1/3 innings, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

The Twins took an early 1-0 lead in the first after two Mariner errors in the first inning. But Seattle struck back in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs on a double by Nelson Cruz.
Minnesota tied it up 2-2 in the fourth inning on Escobar’s homer, then scored two runs in each of the next three innings to seal the victory.
The game was a homecoming for May, who grew up two hours away in Kelso, Wash., and lives in Seattle. He was pitching at Safeco Field for the first time since May 2008, when he played for Kelso High School in the state baseball tournament, the Pioneer Press notes.
After May left, six Twins relievers combined to finish the game, giving up three runs. Glen Perkins pitched a scoreless ninth inning and got the save – his fourth on the season.
Seattle starter James Paxton gave up four runs in 4 2/3 innings, but only one of them was earned. He also struck out seven and walked three.
The two teams close out their weekend series with a Sunday afternoon game.
