Chris Parmelee smacked a two-run triple and Jamey Carroll drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single to help the Twins beat the Angels, 6-5 for their first win of the season. Josh Willingham hit his third homer of the season, a two-run shot in the fourth inning.
Willingham’s long homer sailed into the third deck down the left field line to give Minnesota its first lead of the season, 3-1. But the lead was short-lived as the Angels responded in the top of the fifth on Peter Bourjos’ three-run, inside the park home run.
Carl Pavano gave up five runs in six and two-thirds innings, striking out three. The Angels countered with Jered Weaver, allowed five runs in six innings. He struck out seven.
Twins’ reliever Jeff Gray earned the win. He picked up the final out of the seventh inning — it was the only batter he faced.
Matt Capps earned the save — his first of the season.
