The games are important to the Twins’ hopes of snaring a spot in the playoffs. They were a game-and-a-half behind the Astros in the race for the second wild card as they awaited the outcome of Houston’s game with the Oakland Athletics Friday night.
The Angels are also chasing the Astros and are one game behind the Twins.
After blowing an early five-run lead in Thursday’s loss to the Angels, Minnesota has now dropped three in a row.
Mike Pelfrey, who has struggled with a 7.64 ERA in his last four starts, will face Angels lefthander Andrew Heaney in Saturday’s early game.
Minnesota’s Kyle Gibson and L.A.’s Garret Richards are scheduled to pitch in the nightcap.
