With nearly half of their 162 games – about 44% – against teams from the American League Central, the Twins are, so far, holding their own against the Indians, Royals, Tigers and White Sox.
Last year, en route to 103 losses, the Twins went 24-52 inside the division. This year, the Twins already have 11 wins (10 losses) against division opponents.
Minnesota didn’t win its 11th game against the Central until July 31 last season.
2016 was so bad that Cleveland was the only Central team the Twins defeated until finally winning a game against the Royals on May 25. Prior to that, the Tigers, Royals and White Sox combined to win 17 straight against the Twins to start the season.
It’s still early, but the Twins can keep things interesting simply by playing like they have over the remaining 55 division games.
- 16 more against Cleveland
- 14 more against Kansas City
- 13 more against Detroit
- 12 more against Chicago
The rest of the schedule is against the AL East, AL West and Interleague games with the Brewers, Giants, Padres, Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Rockies.
