Right-hander Alex Meyer, who the Twins acquired from the Nationals in the Denard Span trade, was among the first spring training cuts on Sunday.
The move had nothing to do with Meyer’s performance. He threw five scoreless innings in Grapefruit League play. General manager Terry Ryan called him a “legitimate starting candidate” but he “needs to develop” in the minor leagues.
Meanwhile, Trevor Plouffe aggravated a right calf strain and will likely miss a week or more.
