The Minnesota Twins announced Friday that they’ve added another pitcher to the rotation. The team signed right-hander Rich Harden to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training camp next year.
The former Athletics pitcher missed last season for a shoulder injury that lead to surgery.
He has a 59-38 career record and 3.76 ERA in nine seasons with the Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers.
NBC Sports says adding Harden in a no-risk deal is a decent move to make, adding that it would make sense for the team to see if he can stay healthy and effective as a full-time reliever.
Once sought-after Francisco Liriano is now off the market. The former Twin agreed to a two-year, $14 million contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Twins also announced that returning pitcher Scott Diamond underwent arthroscopic surgery Tuesday to have a bone chip removed from his elbow. He should still be in good shape in time for spring training.
