Minnesota Twins cleanup hitter Josh Willingham limped into the Twins clubhouse on the 4th of July, just one day after arthroscopic surgery to remove torn medial meniscus from his injured knee.
The Pioneer Press reports describes Willingham’s mood as upbeat. Although his left knee was under a heavy wrap, the newspaper said that Willingham arrived without help.”I just didn’t want to come in here all crutched out,” he said.
The procedure performed on Willingham on Wednesday was “pretty similar,” Willingham said, to one he underwent in September 2010. A slide on a stolen-base attempt against the Texas Rangers in April “probably got it going in the wrong direction,” Willingham said.
Willingham has been ordered to rest over the next four to six weeks. The Twins hope to get him back in the line-up by early to mid-August.
“I know how the rehab process goes,” he said. “I’m just going to take it day by day, do the rehab, try to get back in there and then hope to play well.”
