Corn mazes are fun, but sometimes they need to be freshened up.
Last year the farm family that operates a maze just northwest of the Twin Cities was looking for something new that would identify their attraction as uniquely Minnesotan. They settled on the hockey team, designing a corn maze between Brooklyn Park and Champlin that paid tribute to the Minnesota Wild.
It was such a hit, they’ve decided to bring it back to mark the 15th anniversary of the Wild.
“We felt like we wanted to do something more true to Minnesota’s heart,” Twin Cities Corn Maze owner Bert Bouwman told Bring Me The News. “It worked out so well last year, that we wanted to do it again this year.”
During last year’s event Bouwman said they were able to have the families of the Wild out for a special celebration.
It’s not the first time the Bouwmans have worked with a Minnesota professional sports team. They also have done corn mazes to honor special events the Twins have held.
What does it take to pull off such a feat?
Bouwman says it’s a meticulous process.
“It’s a family effort, we draw it on a kitchen table,” said Bouwman. “You have to be very careful, you have to know what you are doing and how it is going to look from the air.”
Twin Cities Corn Maze will be open on weekends beginning Sept. 19 and will also be open Oct. 15-16 (over the Education Minnesota break). The maze is located just off of U.S. Highway 169 between Brooklyn Park and Champlin.
