Rumors surrounding a Vikings move for Trey Lance end up being just that, rumors, after the Cowboys secured the former No. 3 overall pick in a trade with San Francisco.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Friday that the Dallas Cowboys are sending a mid-round pick for the Marshall, Minnesota native ending months of speculation the Minnesota Vikings could make a move for the Minnesota-native.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero has since reported that Dallas is sending a 2024 4th Round pick for Lance.
It comes just days after the 49ers confirmed Lance would be the No. 3 QB this season behind Brock Purdy and Sam Darnold. After news broke of Lance losing the backup quarterback competition to Darnold, 49ers GM John Lynch told San Francisco radio station KNBR, “We’re very happy with Trey. The most likely option is that he’s here.”

Lance struggled to live up to being the third over pick in San Francisco, losing the starting job his rookie year to Jimmy Garoppolo, and then injuries in his second season. In his two seasons with the 49ers, Lance threw for a 797 yards five touchdowns and three interceptions with a 54.9 completion percentage.
