Apple Valley’s Tre Jones announced Sunday he will join up with “Coach K” and the Duke Blue Devils in 2018.
The University of Minnesota was on Jones’ short list of colleges, but he decided to follow in the footsteps of his older brother Tyus to the ACC.
Jones is a five star recruit, and regarded as the best soon-to-be senior point guard in the nation and the No. 7 recruit overall by Scout.com.
It would have been the biggest recruit landed by Richard Pitino as head coach of the Gophers, and cemented the basketball program as one of the tops in the nation.
Minnestota, Ohio State, UCLA, Oregon and Southern California were on his list of other possibilities. Duke was the overwhelming favorite, and in the end, won out on Tre Jones’ services.
He will look to be the second member of his family to bring a national championship to Duke after Tyus did so in 2015. Winning is already in his pedigree; Jones led Apple Valley highschool to the Class 4A championship in March of 2017.
