We may be exaggerating, but after you see this video, you might say the same.
The 16-year-old phenom is Thon Maker, a name as awesome as his game, and we can’t take any kind of credit for finding out about this outrageous talent.
Deadspin has already compared him to Kevin Durant, Sports Grid calls him “terrifyingly good”, and Bleacher Report calls his talent “ridiculous”.
So are they just blowing wind because they’ve seen a highlight tape or two that make him look like a star-in-the-making?
ESPN and Rivals don’t think so, and as two of the top three recruiting services in the land, they would know.
Both rank Maker as a five-star recruit and in the top three of the Class of 2016, ESPN ranking him No. 1. The sports giant also revealed in a November article that he already has plenty of schools interested in his services, including Arizona, who were the No. 1 team in the nation early in the conference season.
The native of Australia doesn’t seem to care how many schools are after him though, telling the Courier-Journal that “we’ve still got to work”, and deferring to his coach when asked about schools.
The Gophers haven’t been mentioned in the Maker sweepstakes from what we’ve seen, though let us be the first to beg Richard Pitino to meet Maker, and the first to give the Carlisle High School standout the tag line “if you try and stop him, you will meet your Maker.”
We should work in marketing.
