We’re talking about former second baseman Chuck Knoblauch, who on this day in 2001, was at the center of a Metrodome disturbance for the ages.
Knoblauch, then playing left field for the New York Yankees, was pelted by frankfurters by unruly fans (it was “dollar-a-dog” night, after all).
The umps had to yank the Yankees from the field for 12 minutes, as manager Tom Kelly actually went out to left field to beg the fans to stop.
Late, great Metrodome announcer Bob Casey lectured the crowd, saying “Please stop throwing things! This is an important game! Now quit this!”
