The Timberwolves have signed veteran point guard Andre Miller, his agent tells the Associated Press. Miller visited with the team early Wednesday and reached a contract agreement a bit later in the day.

Miller, 39, spent last season with Washington and Sacramento, and averaged 4.4 points and 3.5 assists per game, according to SBNation.
The Timberwolves need an experienced point guard to back up Ricky Rubio, who’s recovering from ankle surgery, and to help guide rookie Tyus Jones, the Associated Press notes. The AP says Miller is considered one of the smartest players in the NBA at that position.

Besides Rubio and Jones, the Wolves roster also includes several other young players who are expected to make an impact early, including Andrew Wiggins, Zach LaVine and No. 1 overall draft pick Karl-Anthony Towns.

But now the Wolves also have two of the oldest players in the NBA on their roster in Miller and forward Kevin Garnett. Both will turn 40 years old next year – Miller in March and Garnett in May.

Miller will be playing in his 17th NBA season, and Minnesota is the eighth franchise he’s played for during his career, according to SBNation.
