The Timberwolves signed two players Saturday in an attempt to add depth to team’s injury-laden roster, the Pioneer Press reports.
French forward Mickael Gelabale and center Chris Johnson were each signed to 10-day contracts.
Gelabale, 29, joins the Wolves after getting permission to be released from his contract with Valencia CB in the Spanish League, while Johnson, 27, comes in from the Santa Cruz (Calif.) Warriors in the NBA’s Development League.
On Friday, the NBA granted the Wolves, who are 16-20, a hardship exception to exceed the 15-man roster limit in consideration of the team’s injury woes. With the addition of Gelabale and Johnson, the team’s roster is up to 16 players.
The signings come after the loss Thursday night of Nikola Peckovic, who will be out 7-10 days with a severely bruised thigh.
Injured star Kevin Love, meanwhile, began rehab in New York Friday on his broken hand. Love could return to the lineup as early as March.
The Wolves take on the Houston Rockets Saturday night at Target Center.
