Kevin Williams isn’t afraid to retire, but he would much rather find a new home in the NFL.
Williams made $4.9 million last season with the Vikings, but he hasn’t been offered a deal he considers fair on the open market – and he won’t play until he does, according to the Pioneer Press.
“If it’s not worth the risk of going back out there, I can’t say I’ll do it,” Williams said. “I don’t see (taking a low-value deal) at this point, but you never know.”
Williams has reportedly made free-agent visits with the New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks. Other teams have expressed interest, but none have offered the 11-year veteran a deal he considers fair. If he doesn’t get a desirable contract offer, he’ll simply slide into retirement.
“I’m not one of those guys that’s afraid to go home. I’m comfortable going home,” he said.
Williams, 33, worked out for the Giants two weeks ago and most recently spent time in Seattle with the Seahawks, although he did not work out.
In March, Williams was hopeful that Vikings general manager Rick Spielman would offer him a deal to finish his career in a purple No. 93 jersey. When it didn’t come to fruition, Williams said he wasn’t disappointed or unhappy with the decision.
Minnesota’s projected defensive line, assuming they play a 4/3 base defense, will included defensive ends Brian Robison and Everson Griffen, along with defensive tackles Linval Joseph and Shariff Floyd.
