Red Wing: Girls rally for state golf title
Red Wing’s high school girls golf team trailed three-time defending state champ Detroit Lakes by seven shots after the first day of the state tournament, but the Wingers stormed by to win the 2A title by three strokes. They celebrated with a dip in a pond. “That was fun. The kids played tremendous today,” their coach said.

Detroit Lakes: Smith wins 4th golf title
Kate Smith became the second Minnesota golfer to win four straight high school golf championships on Wednesday. The senior from Detroit Lakes finished the Class 2A individual tournament at 7-under par, two shots better than Minnewaska’s Jenna Janu. The 2A tournament was played at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan. Smith will play golf next fall at the University of Nebraska.

Mankato: East ties for 2A golf team title
Mankato East and The Blake School tied for the Class 2A boys golf team championship. A clutch chip on 18, stopping within a few feet of the cup, played a key role in leading the Cougars to the win. “At that point I thought we could win it. It’s pretty nice to end your senior year a state champion,” senior golfer Chris Sadaka said.

Twin Cities: Twins draft 2 local pitchers
A pair of local pitchers, one college and one high school, were drafted by the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. They took University of Minnesota left-hander Dalton Sawyer in the 27th round and then used their 37th-round selection on Bloomington Jefferson ace Jake Irvin.
