The Minnesota Twins have announced that reliever Anthony Swarzak has left the team to deal with a personal family matter.
The Pioneer Press reports that Swarzak flew home to Minnesota Friday, and is scheduled to rejoin the team on Monday for the series with Detroit.
With Swarzak out and rookie right-hander Ryan Pressly, who worked in relief Friday night, the job of long relief will fall to Liam Hendriks, who was demoted from starting after a short outing in Chicago earlier this week.
Swarzak last pitched on Thursday night, he did not retire a batter for the first time in his 128 career outings. His 92 2/3 relief innings are the most for a right handed Twins reliever since Juan Berenguer threw 100 1/3 in 1990.
Saturday’s Twins game at Oakland is off to a late start, but they are underway.
