Times sure have changed for Super Bowl MVP Julian Edelman, whose 10 catches for 141 yards helped the Patriots win a sixth championship 13-3 over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night.
Edelman has blossomed into a star wide receive in the NFL, but if you rewind the clock about a dozen years you’ll find Edelman at Kent State University, where he was a three-year starting quarterback (2006-09) before being selected by the Patriots in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft.
His first college start came Aug. 31, 2006 in a 44-0 loss to the Minnesota Gophers, back when Glen Mason was still the head coach and Bryan Cupito was throwing passes to Eric Decker.
Edelman finished that game 7-of-13 passing for 150 yards, zero touchdowns and three interceptions. He also scrambled 14 times for 31 yards.
It’s all worked out pretty well on the football field for Edelman since then.
Bonus: Edelman tells a Randy Moss story on ESPN postgame show
After being congratulated by Moss on ESPN’s postgame show, Edelman told a story about first meeting Moss when they played together in New England.
“I’ll tell you one quick Randy story. He goes, ‘Edelnut, there are about 14-15 of you in this league. There’s only one Randy Moss, ’98 first round get to know me.'”
