It was a wild night in Anaheim as the Angels beat the Twins, 8-6 Tuesday night.
Kyle Gibson entered the game with 22 consecutive scoreless innings pitched, but he couldn’t even stretch the streak one out further. Gibson gave up four runs before recording a single out in the first inning.
The Angels plated five runs off Gibson in the first, but the Twins struck back with five of their own in the second.
Minnesota jumped on Angels left-hander C.J. Wilson with back-to-back home runs by Josh Willingham and ex-Angels slugger Kendrys Morales. Sam Fuld made it a two-run game with an RBI single, and the Twins tied it up after an RBI double by Danny Santana and another run-scoring single off the bat of Brian Dozier.
Two-time MVP runner-up Mike Trout, widely considered the best player in baseball, put the Angels up 7-5 with a two-run homer in the second.
Gibson was pulled after two innings. He allowed seven earned runs, three more than he had allowed in his previous five starts combined.
A sacrifice fly by Morales made it a 7-6 game in the fifth – a score that would hold until the Angels added an insurance run in the eighth.
The wild start to the game settled down once Gibson and Wilson were removed. Samuel Deduno pitched four scoreless innings for the Twins, allowing just one hit while striking out four.
