The Minnesota Wild’s five game winning streak came to an end Thursday night as they fell to the New York Rangers 3-2, at the Xcel Energy Center.
The victory locked up the Metropolitan Division for the Rangers.
The game lived up to expectations, with New York and Minnesota among the favorites to win the Stanley Cup this year, according to Bovada.
The Wild got out to a slow start as New York built a 2-0 lead early in the first period on goals from Dominic Moore and Rick Nash. Both came on deflections in front of the net, giving Devan Dubnyk little chance to stop them.

But the Wild didn’t stay down. They were able to turn the momentum in the second period, pulling within one on Jason Pominville’s 17th goal of the season.
The Wild also killed off a 5-on-3 Ranger power play late in the second period, generating some momentum heading into the third.
Thomas Vanek then tied it up in the third with his 21st goal of the season.

But the tie was short-lived. J.T. Miller tipped another puck past Dubnyk 55 seconds later and the Rangers held off some late Minnesota chances for the victory.
Goalie Henrik Lundqvist stopped 26 shots on the night to lead the Rangers, while Matt Dumba assisted on both Wild goals.
The Wild continue their home stand on Saturday against Detroit.
