The Twins will have an action-packed weekend from July 20-22 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 1987 World Series Championship team. Alumni like Gary Gaetti, Kent Hrbek, Frank Viola and others will be there.
On Friday, July 21, the Twins will unveil the statue for legendary manager Tom Kelly between 4:30 and 5 p.m. He led the team to its two championships in ’87 and 1991.
Here’s a rundown of what will happen during the three-day event:
Thursday, July 20 – first pitch, 6:10 p.m.
- Celebration of the 1987 World Series with members of the team on the field.
- Interactive games, entertainment, photo opportunities and silent auction that benefits the Twins Community Fund.
Friday, July 21 – first pitch, 7:10 p.m.
- Baseballs from the last outs that clinched the 1987 Western Division, the 1987 ALCS, and 1987 World Series will be on display in the Digital Clubhouse.
- Tom Kelly statue unveiling on Target Plaza.
- Two half-hour pregame photo sessions featuring Twins alumni in the Puckett Atrium within the Delta Sky 360Âş Club.
- Postgame fireworks to the songs of Billy Joel.
Saturday, July 22 – first pitch, 6:10 p.m.
- First 10,000 fans 21-and-older receive commemorative beer steins.
- Three half-hour pregame photo sessions at Delta Sky 360Âş Club, the Digital Clubhouse and on the concourse near Gate 29.
- Dick Bremer emcees the introduction of the 1987 team, which includes speeches from Hrbek and Viola.
- The 1987 World Series Trophy will be on display for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings at the Digital Clubhouse.
