Why was Percy Harvin dealt to Seattle?
Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports cites two sources saying Harvin’s lack of confidence in quarterback Christian Ponder proved to be the final straw for the Vikings.
When asked about the Harvin trade Tuesday, Ponder told Vikings play-by-play man Paul Allen that “I have full trust in (GM) Rick (Spielman) and Coach (Leslie) Frazier.
“We’ll get guys in here. I trust what’s going on. I hope we resign Jerome (Simpson).”
Was Ponder surprised Harvin was dealt?
“We have full trust in what Rick Spielman … is doing,” Ponder said, not wanting to comment extensively because the transaction still wasn’t official.
Minnesota receives the No. 25 pick in the draft this year, along with a seventh-round pick and a reported third-round pick next year.
Ponder connected with Harvin 62 times for 677 yards and three touchdowns before Harvin injured his ankle in 2012.
Harvin’s reported problem with Ponder isn’t his first personal issue with a co-worker. He reportedly got into a shouting match with head coach Leslie Frazier last season.
He also reportedly shoved a coach by the throat during his college days at Florida.
