Sonny Gray struck out a career-high 13 but the Twins still needed a walk-off single by Kyle Farmer in the bottom of the 10th to win the home opener Friday.
The Twins took advantage of two wild pitches in the final frame to get runners to third, both times Twins hitters — Jose Miranda and Farmer — followed up by driving in the run. It was Minnesota’s only two hits with runners in scoring position in the game.
The Astros loaded the bases for Farmer who took just three pitches to drill a middle of the plate fastball into center field for the game-winning run, his second hit of the day, to end the Twins two-game losing skid.

The Twins continue to suffer from a power outage after putting up 11 runs on Monday in Miami, scoring just three runs off their last 20 hits.
Joe Ryan and Luis Garcia are set to take the mound for the Twins and Astros in Game two of the series Saturday. First pitch is set for 1:10 p.m. at Target Field.
