The Minnesota Gophers, fresh off their stunning 34-23 victory over Nebraska on Saturday, are getting some respect in the polls, according to the Pioneer Press.
The paper reports that the Gophers (6-2) earned their first votes in the USA Today college football coaches poll released Sunday. Minnesota garnered six votes in the coaches poll, good for a three-way tie for 34th with the Cornhuskers and Mississippi.
The Gophers showed up at about the same place in the Associated Press football writers poll, tying for 35th with Ball State.
The Gophers gained bowl eligibility with the victory over the well-regarded Nebraska team. The Lincoln, (NE.) Journal Star bemoaned the loss. “Down the Gopher hole the Huskers fell, much to the glee of students in maroon and gold who stormed the field and jumped around, then jumped around some more,” the paper wrote in its game story.
