An apologetic Jerome Simpson addressed the media today after being arrested Saturday morning on charges of driving while intoxicated.
“I sincerely apologize for the attention that I have brought to the fans, community and myself,” Simpson said, via the Star Tribune. “I’ve just got great support with this team, and they’re going to help with whatever arises.”
According to NBC Sports, Simpson said he expects to play Sunday when the Vikings visit the Seattle Seahawks.
Vikings coach Leslie Frazier did not comment on the situation any further than saying the team is aware of the situation. The Vikings released a statement on Saturday after hearing of the arrest.
“The Vikings are aware of the matter involving Jerome Simpson. We are continuing to gather information and will have further comment at the appropriate time,” the statement said.
Simpson leads the Vikings with 491 receiving yards.
