Former Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers safety Darren Sharper was given an 18-year prison sentence in New Orleans on Thursday.
It’s the result of Sharper admitting to raping and drugging women in four different states, with accusations from 16 different women, according to the New Orleans Advocate.
The Advocate reports that one of the victims was in the courtroom during the sentencing and told Sharper to “go to hell.”
In court on Thursday he apologized to his victims.
“They didn’t deserve anything being a part of my heinous decisions,” Sharper said. “I still don’t know why I lived my life right for 38 years, and then I took this path.”
The victims that spoke in court Thursday weren’t so quick to forgive Sharper. According to the Associated Press, one victim even claimed Sharper kept drugging and raping women even after he knew she was talking to state and federal investigators.
“Within days … you gave … and the entire judicial system in Louisiana the big middle finger because you thought we weren’t capable of stopping you,” she said. “You continued to rape other women in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Las Vegas.”

Sharper spent 14 seasons in the NFL, including four with the Vikings (2005-08). He began his career with the Packers and retired after the 2010 season following two years with the Saints.
Sharper intercepted 63 passes in his career, was named All-Pro 6 times and selected to five Pro Bowls. He won a Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints in 2009.
