The San Jose Sharks beat the Minnesota Wild 4-3 in overtime at Xcel Energy Center Tuesday night.
The Sharks’ road victory snapped a streak of 15 straight games in the series that had been won by the home team. It was also San Jose’s 12th victory in their last 17 games.
Meanwhile the struggles continue for the Wild, who have just two wins in their last 10 games.
Marc-Edouard Vlasic beat Darcy Kuemper to the short side in overtime for the game winner. It was Vlasic’s second game-winning goal in as many nights and his sixth goal of the season.
The Wild took a quick 2-0 lead in the first period. Jason Zucker put the Wild on top with his first of two goals on the night. Jared Spurgeon pushed the Wild’s lead to 2-0 a few moments later, but the Sharks rattled off three unanswered to take a 3-2 lead.
Zucker’s second goal of the night pulled the Wild even late and forced overtime. He finished the game with two goals and an assist, but it wasn’t enough as Vlasic hit the game-winner in the extra period to dash the Wild’s hopes.
Minnesota was without Zach Parise during Tuesday night’s game. He did not play in order to be with his ailing father. According to the Pioneer Press, Parise spent the night with his family and father, who was diagnosed with cancer last February.
The Wild issued a statement Tuesday evening announcing Parise’s absence.
“The Wild supports his decision to be with his family as his dad, J.P., battles lung cancer and asks that their privacy be respected. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Parise family during this difficult time.”
The Wild return to action on Thursday against Chicago.
